Nan Simpson Biography
Nan is a signature member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, and is also a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists. She is a native plant enthusiast, and has developed programs for the New Mexico State Parks and for the Petroglyph National Monument and the Bosque del Apache.
She has studied with many of Albuquerque's leading watercolor instructors. She also has studied botanical drawing and illustration at the Chicago Botanic Garden and with June Hill Pedigo in Chicago. Recently she has studied in Italy with American artists Fred Wessel and Jeremiah Patterson.
Her paintings and drawings have been exhibited in numerous juried shows in New Mexico, including the Spring and Fall shows and the Signature Member show of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, in the Masterworks of New Mexico show, in Expo New Mexico, and in the 2006 Western Federation of Watercolor Societies show in Lubbock, Texas.
Primarily a Realist, Nan occasionally experiments with semi-abstract images. In addition to watercolor, she also enjoys working in the media of carbon dust and silverpoint.
